Salmon Resources and Ecology Division
After sea entry, Japanese stocks of Pacific salmon (chum, pink, and masu salmon) migrate around the North Pacific Ocean along with other country stocks. The Salmon Resources and Ecology Division conducts ecological researches through their life history from fry to adult (including the cooperative international Pacific salmon research cruise) and stock management research. In particular, in order to ensure stable adult return, the division conducts research and development to understand fluctuation of Pacific salmon resources due to environmental factors, research and development intended to realize resource management highly resistant to oceanographic environmental changes that utilizing both wild and hatchery fish, and research and development on reproduction and stock enhancement. The division's research and development conducts in cooperation with the Salmon Enhancement Division.
