History

History of the Fisheries Research Agency History of the National Fisheries University

1897

A fisheries training center was established at the Fisheries Research Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce, and a test department was established.

1925

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry was established, and it became the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Fisheries Training Institute Testing Department.

1929

The Fisheries Research Department and the Marine Research Department were separated from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Fisheries Training Institute, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Fisheries Experiment Station was established.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

1949

In accordance with the organizational reform of the testing and research institutes attached to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Fisheries Research Institute of the Fisheries Agency was reorganized into the 7th sea regional District Fisheries Research Institute.

1950

Hokkaido National Fisheries Research Institute was established.

 

 

 

 

1967

The National Research Institute of Far Seas Fisheries was established

1979

Aquaculture Research Institute the Fisheries

2001

Following the reorganization of the central government ministries, the Fisheries Research Agency was establis hed as a new, independent administrative organization by consolidating nine former National Fisheries Research Institutes (the oldest Institute established in 1929).

2003

The FRA takes over the duties of the Japan Marine Fishery Research Center (JAMARC) and the Japan Sea-Farming Association (JASFA).

2006

The FRA consolidates the National Salmon Resources Center (NASREC), another incorporated administrative agency.

2015

The FRA was renamed as National Research and Development Agency, Fisheries Research Agency.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

1941

Pusan Fisheries College(Pusan Koto Suisan Gakko) is founded in Pusan by the Government-General of Korea.

1944

Changed name to Pusan Fisheries special school

1945

The Agriculture and Forestry Ministry of Japan sanctions the repatriated students' transference to the Imperial Fisheries Institute in Tokyo.

1946

A branch school of the Imperial Fisheries Institute with 3 departments(Fishery Science and Technology, Food Science and Technology, and Biology and Aquacuture) is founded at Yoshimi, Shimonoseki City.

1947

Renamed as The Shimonoseki College of Fisheries with the new Department of Marine Engineering.


 

 

 

 

 

1952

The name was changed to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Fisheries Training Center.

1963

Renamed as Shimonoseki University of Fisheries.


 

 

 

 

2001

Renamed as Incorporated Administractive Agency National Fisheries University.

2016

The National Fisheries Research Agency and the National Fisheries University united to form the National Research and Development Agency, Japan Fisheries Research and Education Agency

2020

The R&D Division, which consisted of 9th research institutes, was reorganized into the Fisheries Resources Institute and the Fisheries Technology Institute, creating organization with the addition of the Marine Fisheries Research and Development Center and the National Fisheries University
